WHY THIS WATCH

The Heuer Autavia, a blend of "Automotive" and "Aviation," was introduced in 1962 by Swiss watchmaker Heuer. Originally designed as a dashboard instrument for race cars and aircraft, it transitioned into a wristwatch under Jack Heuer's leadership. Autavia gained fame through its association with motorsport icons like Jo Siffert and Mario Andretti. Its innovative features, such as a rotating bezel and high legibility, made it popular among racing enthusiasts. The Autavia series was discontinued in 1986, but in 2017, TAG Heuer, the successor of Heuer, reissued the Autavia, celebrating its rich heritage and reaffirming its iconic status.

The Heuer 7763C is a vintage manual-wind chronograph watch from the 1960s. Part of the Heuer Carrera family, it represents Jack Heuer's vision of a clean, legible, and functional racing-inspired timepiece. Launched in 1963, the Carrera was named after the dangerous and thrilling Carrera Panamericana road race. The 7763C features a robust stainless steel case, a two-register chronograph layout, and a classic black dial with contrasting white sub-dials. On the wrist, I'd say this watch wears true to its 40mm size, if not a little larger due to the lug construction. I love wearing this watch while driving, as it is a racing watch and dial legibility is superb. Vintage Heuers saw a huge spike in prices a few years ago, but have come down a ton, making this a really great value for a vintage racing watch from the late 60s.

THE LITTLE DETAILS

The watch is 11XXXX from 1968. The Valjoux manual winding movement has been cleaned and oiled by our watchmaker and is running strong. The chronograph resets to zero as it should. The dial is original, with very little lume left on the indices. The case is in vintage condition, with wear throughout. The original bezel is showing some normal wear as well. Comes on an aftermarket racing strap. No box or papers.
