💡WHY THIS WATCH

The Rolex Submariner 168000 is a rare and transitional reference produced for only about 9 months between 1987 and 1988, making it one of the shortest-lived Submariner models ever. It served as a bridge between the 16800 and the later 16610. While visually nearly identical to the 16800—with a 40mm case, black aluminum bezel, Sapphire crystal, and Caliber 3035 movement—the 168000 is notable for being the first Submariner to use 904L stainless steel, a more corrosion-resistant alloy that Rolex would go on to adopt across all its steel watches. What makes it special is its extreme rarity, historical significance, and its role as the forerunner of the modern Submariner, making it highly sought after by collectors who appreciate transitional references.
